Aim:

Students explore the comma and its use in sentences.

Preparing:

– Students learn about commas which separate clauses in a sentence.

– Go through the following link and explain to students how commas can make sentences more interesting.

Presenting:

– Write some sentences on the IWB and allow students to come and place the commas in the correct place.

– Link: Adding commas in sentences.

– Get the students to come and circle the clauses in the sentences.

– Ask them to tell the class why they are circling that part, explain the clause.

– Students can then complete the worksheet provided. Answers are found on the Link about (TES resources: comma lesson)
